The 2019 North American Iron Workers / IMPACT Conference was held in Las Vegas in late February. During the conference, Iron Workers Local 172 and contractor Titan Reinforcing were awarded the IMPACT 2018 Project of the Year for Reinforcing for the National Veterans Memorial & Museum.
Located in downtown Columbus, Ohio, the National Veterans Memorial & Museum is a 50,000 square-foot building constructed from 28-million pounds of concrete with a glass curtainwall system that spirals upwards from the ground. According to the museum, "the building itself is a symbol of our nation’s veterans and how their strength emanates from within."
In addition to the IMPACT award, the building has been celebrated for its design and quality construction. In 2017, Architectural Digest named it one of the most anticipated new buildings in the country. The new National Veterans Memorial & Museum grand opening took place in October of 2018 and has since become a place of honor and reverence for veterans, active duty service members, and their families.
