In honor of a past member

 

 Barry L. Cooper, age 68, of Galena, died Tuesday morning, September 23, 2014 at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville after several years of Multiple Symptom Atrophy which left him wheelchair bound.

He was born on June 27, 1946 in Charleston, WV to the late Ira and Myna Cooper. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran serving as a Green Beret often operating behind enemy lines.

Barry had lived here since 1969 coming from West Virginia. He came to Ohio and entered the Iron Workers Apprentice Program and worked for 18 years with Iron Workers Union Local 172.

He then started his own Precast Construction Company with 2 others and eventually became the sole owner of a multi-million dollar company.

Barry was a member of the Ohio Bowhunters, Wyandot Archers, NRA, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Safari Club International.

He enjoyed anything outdoors and loved to hunt, play golf and fish. Barry was a kind and gentle man who loved to work in order to provide for his family.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Julia A. (Jarrell) Cooper and they were married May 6, 1967 in Bradley, WV; sons, Hunter L. (Deborah) Cooper of Mount Vernon, Shane A. Cooper of Titusville, Florida;

brothers, Ronald (Peggy) Cooper of Reynoldsburg, Eddie (Sue) Cooper of Massillon; sisters, Sandra (Billy) Pack of Winchester, Ky., Sue (Leslie) Cameron of Huron.

Preceded in death by his step-mother Kathleen Cooper.

Friends may call Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the DeVORE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury.

Funeral service will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at Genoa Baptist Church, 7562 Lewis Center Road, Sunbury with Pastor Frank Carl officiating.
